sunol regional wilderness: vista grande

January 20, 2013
Alameda County
Hikers: Cathy, Laura, Noreen
Distance: 6.68 miles

Another frosty start.

Huge paw print - looked like a baseball glove.

Hmmm we want Flag Hill...

Whew... it shows on the other side.

A couple of hikers enjoying the view.

A perfect spot for a bench!

No hike is complete without a view of Mt. Diablo.

Pepper Tree

You can't really tell but the bark on this tree is twisted.

One HUGE eucalyptus!

According to the guide book, Flag Hill is named for an American flag displayed here by a picnicking family on July 4, 1903.

Driving out of the park we passed this field that was filled with deer. Not to far from here and on the opposite side of the road, Laura & Noreen saw a bobcat on the side of the hill. Laura tried for a picture, but by the time we backed up and were camera ready, the cat had hunkered down in the brush. Next time!
