Out With The Old ~ In With The New | A Walk Across The New Bay Bridge

March 23, 2014
Emeryville, CA
Hikers Walkers: Cathy, Laura
Distance: 8.5 miles
Elevation Gain: 217 ft.

FYI: There are portable bathrooms just before you reach the toll plaza of the bridge, and they even have pump sinks with soap, to wash your hands. :)

Walking under the MacArthur Maze (I-80/I-580/I-880).

Yeah, not the best place for a rest stop - next to the wastewater treatment plant - stinky!

Our favorite flower!! I'm lucky enough to have these in my yard. :)

And who is Alexander Zuckermann? Click here to read more.

Notice all the hard hats in the windows.

Well, that explains all the hard hats...

The shipping container cranes look like futuristic - prehistoric creatures, don't they?

The new Bay Bridge peaking over the old..

The old, and the new, side by side.

The view behind us.

A seal!

There are three lanes on the new pedestrian/bike path. The left for pedestrians, and two for bikes.

Sad to see the "old" go.

A ball! Maybe this ball belongs to the seal we saw. ;)

Once the old bridge is torn down, the bike/pedestrian path will continue on to Yerba Buena Island.

No worries here! We have no desire to trespass..

These birds were busily building their nests on the old bridge. :(

How cute is this little guy?

Trails:
Bay Bridge Trail
We parked at Ikea - the trailhead is right across the street. It's about two and a half miles before you reach the bridge.
